CRISIS
Author - Jay Woelfel
Genre - Horror/Action-Suspense/Thriller
Length - Feature With Comedic Undertones
Logline - Eddie Lazarus is nervous about turning forty years old, but
when he discovers that every male member of his family has been murdered
when they turn forty he becomes hysterical. He travels to a strange
backwater town, where his family has its roots, to try to find the reason
he was born to die in time to survive.
Synopsis - What if you were Eddie Lazarus? You should be happy. You
have everything going for you. You have a deeply bitter ex-wife who
used to be psychotically angry with you, but has finally mellowed, and
you have your son, about to turn eighteen, who assures you the police
can only
get him for possession and not for sales...
So life's great isn't it? Forty isn't a bad age. Unless of course you're
going to be murdered. Who wouldn't have a Mid-life Crisis?
It starts when Sheriff Law and Doctor Ma, two small town hicks, come
to your office with your great great grandfather Ezra's head in a shoe
box. He was murdered when he turned forty. In fact, every Lazarus male
since then, has died at that age and since the day after tomorrow is
your birthday, they thought you'd like to know.
You don't believe them at first, until an unsuccessful murder attempt,
that very day, slows your trip home. So after rapidly "enjoying" the
stages of panic and denial that go through your head, you travel with
Law and Ma to Bellsville, the small town that your family came from.
You find that E.T. has been playing here since it opened in 1982 and
that's the most normal thing about the town.
There are a number of local suspects that could be out to kill you.
There is a motorcycle gang (called The Leather Homeboys) who like to
party with the local witches' coven and there is the even more
suspicious local group who call themselves The People For Moral Decency
who are fanatically campaigning to have cable television banned from
their town.
Luckily you've brought your friend, Fragman Dave, along to protect you.
Fragman is a Vietnam vet and as long as he isn't making you watch Platoon
with him, he'll protect you with his life.
Research into your past confirms your worst fears. All of your male
relatives have been murdered. Kids in town actually dress up as of one
of them for Halloween. "Awful lookin' things." Sheriff Law explains,
"You see he was stabbed, shot, set on fire, and hurled off a cliff."
The only good thing you learn is that there is an attractive local woman,
named June, who seems to be attracted to you. Too bad the continuing
attacks on your life get in the way of a nice quiet dinner
with her.
Then suddenly your buddy and protector Fragman Dave disappears.
Will you discover the identity of the killer in time? Will you have
time left to make time with June? And how will the fact that all four
legged animals attack you on sight figure into your ultimate fate?
There is no time to answer any of these questions because, next thing
you know, your birthday arrives! It's a bright beautiful Sunday. It's
your last day on earth but what's truly horrible is not only that
you should probably go to church, but also that you can't get drunk
because they don't sell beer here on Sundays.
