2. LOVE: IT'S ELEMENTARY
Author - Brenda Cregor
Genre - Romantic Comedy
Length - Feature
Logline - Who ever said love is
child's play?
Synopsis - Craig, a part-time professor,
on a Sabbatical, now substitute-teaching, is trying to write a doctoral
thesis on the Physiological Correlates of the Human Emotion; Love. Fairalynn
is a much beloved Kindergarten teacher hiding her four failed marriages.
Charlotte, Ricky, Grace, Vince, and Niko are 6th graders determined
to prove how love works, and that it has very little to do with anything
they will be seeing in the school's Sex Ed film.
Ricky and Gracie make a bet. Ricky and his boy friends think teaching
Craig to send animal kingdom mating signals can get their new long-term
sub a life-time companion with three desparate female teacher prospects
( Dona, Gloria, and Cheryl). Gracie and her girl friend think a few
elementary lessons in romance can lead at least one of these man-hungry
teachers into a life-time of Cosmo-magazine-type romantic love with
Craig. But, these children will learn, love is never a simple venture.
Craig falls for Fairalynn. When her failed marriages are discovered,
she falls from grace ( in the eyes of her former students). Craig winds
up accidentally confessing his love to all four women ( in a bridesmaid
shoe mishap), and leads the three love-starved teachers to believe that
he'll be their ( and only their) dance partner for the school's Valentine's
Day Dance. And finally, a child's simple observations on love and Craig's
first experience with a heart-felt relationship, enable him to finish
the thesis ( which is ultimately rejected), after he wins the imperfect
love of his life. And the kids? Well, they learn love is not so "elementary"
after all.

Arriving and staying
at the same resort, Wil and Monika meet right away--to the chagrine

adults do: love. They quickly grow closer and eventually marry.

friends and family don't believe he's newly married, no matter how hard
he tries to convince them--and he ties hard. Monika, for her part, tells
only her best friend that she's married and gets right back into her
next case.
Once Monika finishes
her latest mission, she finally decides to visit Wil. Good news: everyone
learns that Wil is indeed married. Bad news: Monika inadvertently brings
her work, in the form of the Russian mob seeking revenge, with her.

soft-spoken Hiro into the next Joe Cool. Hiro, however, sees this reinvention
as futile, knowing that at semester's end he'll be called back to Japan
to work in his family's liquor store. In the meantime, Donnie's roving
eye has picked out Aya Watanabe, a beautiful young business major, to
be his next conquest. Romance, however, has no place in Aya's life right
now; unless she can land her dream job with an American corporation,
she's consigned to return home. When Donnie unwittingly sets Hiro up
for a date with Aya instead of her flirtatious cousin, Yuki, it will
lead to an offer that one of them can't refuse.
9. FANCY
PANTS
Authors - Christine De Smet and Peggy Williams
Genre - Romance/Teen/Western/BASED ON TRUE STORY
Length - Feature
Logline - A childless couple overcomes
great obstacles to give away hope and 300 free horses to kids in need,
particularly one shy girl who helps them solve a theft ring and then
rides a special horse in national competition.
Synopsis - When MARLENE marries
Midwest horse wrangler BOB "BEAR" HEGWOOD, it is with the hope of a
real family and of kids filling the house at Christmas. But Marlene's
inability to get pregnant and Bear's sudden, near fatal health problems
threaten their dream and even adoption is denied to them. Marlene, instead,
focuses on her own "kid," an unwanted Arabian horse, Star King, which
she dreams of riding in the Olympics.
To afford an experimental
operation to save Bear's life, Marlene faces the necessity of selling
Star King and their other four horses. Bear won’t hear of it. No hospital
bill will claim his horses. Instead, they’ll give their horses away
to kids! In exchange the kids will give them back foals, which Bob will
sell to pay off debts. They’re deluged with letters. They keep Star
King, but give away horses to shy CASSIE, poor TRISH, lonely JILL, and
JEREMY in leg braces. The Hegwoods are famous matchmakers. But Marlene
has doubts about all this. She still wants her unattainable dream.
Marlene’s doubts are soon substantiated. When Bear catches teenager
REESE lurking around the stable, he puts the teenager to work. He also
befriends TONY, an African-American teen in danger of going with gangs
but with dreams of being a cowboy. But Bear's good nature is tested
when he discovers that Jill has sold her free horse for drug money.
Cassie, so shy and
troubled she’s failing classes, begins to compete on Snowball. Cassie
loses her first competitions, and is mocked by other, richer kids because
of her cheap equipment.
Marlene's pride
and joy is a fancy show saddle, given to her by Bob as a wedding gift.
It’s the saddle she planned to use in the Olympics. Intruders attack
Cassie and blind one of the horses, stealing the saddle. When suspicion
falls on Reese, he sets out to get the saddle back. However, he’s killed
in an auto accident. Marlene and Bob mourn deeply. Reese was like Bob’s
own son.
To Marlene’s surprise,
Cassie's astute observations help solve the crime and clear Reese's
name. But it’s too late for Cocoa, the blinded horse. But Bob won't
give up on anyone. He retrains Cocoa and surprises everyone when she
rides again in competition—and wins! Bob, who now suffers from diabetes
and an amputated foot, doesn't believe in letting a disability keep
you from great things. Marlene works hard to keep everybody together
and happy, pushing aside her dreams.
Cassie, more confident,
finds the courage to enter the national 4-H Olympics. But she starts
to become something of a “fancy pants,” wanting to be like all the rich
girls. She whines that there's no way she can win on Snowball, and when
Cassie cops a “fancy pants, I deserve more attitude,”
Marlene teaches
her a lesson or two. Then gives her Star King! Bear and Marlene are
proud “parents” indeed, and Marlene has realized her Olympics dream
through Cassie, who has learned humility.
In turn, Cassie
gives Snowball to Tony, who can finally realize his dream of being an
African-American cowboy. But there's one horse left to give...Reese's.
When Bear tries to find the perfect horse for JENAE, a little girl facing
heart surgery, Reese's father suggests Reese’s big, but gentle animal.
Marlene takes pride in the people from across the country who learn
of the “man who gives horses away.” Bear even has a card stamped with
that phrase. But what’s left for Marlene? What of her dream for a family
with Bear? It happens that Christmas.
Bear and Marlene
Hegwood finally find the Christmas they've always wanted—a house full
of kids. Dozens show up to thank Bear and Marlene for changing their
lives with the horses. That Christmas Eve, the kids watch along with
Bear and Marlene as a beautiful foal is born in their barn, signaling
hope and a better future for the Illinois rancher and his wife. She
realizes how special Cassie’s been to their lives, a nice fancy pants
indeed.
